My Master and My Father

March 27, 2005

One thing I really admire about my friend Dan is his gift for gently rebuking in such a way that you clearly get the point, but there's no question that it's out of friendship and love, not out of anger. One time I said something I shouldn't have said, and Dan only had to say a couple words (I forget what they were exactly) that gently brought me back. Later that evening, I prayed and asked God for forgiveness, and I felt such a sense of peace that could only come from God that I just had to write about it. (By "brother", I mean brother in Christ. It is referring to Dan.)

My Master and my Father,
Your greatness is beyond comprehension
Your mercy and love abound far beyond what I deserve
You have looked upon Your penitent servant
And You have forgiven me

O Master, I praise You for Your servant my brother
Thank You for sending him
And for using him to gently guide me
Back onto the path

O Master, I am Your servant
I stand before Your throne broken and forgiven
I am Yours to do with as You please
Use me for Your glory
When others see me, may they see Your light
Shining through me

As the evil one puts temptation in my path,
Help me to resist
Guide me closer to You
Sharpen my sword and strengthen my shield
And use me to vanquish the foe

Amen
