Thank You, Miss Morris

April 13-14, 2002

Miss Morris was our counselor in elementary at Faith Academy. She was amazing...and she is still one of the most positive influences in my life. She came to our classroom on a regular basis with DUSO, a blue dolphin puppet who taught us important moral lessons. Miss Morris was a fan of Winnie the Pooh, so she taught us to say "Oh bother!" rather than swear. On our birthdays, she invited each student to her office, and we were allowed to bring a friend. She threw birthday parties. She gave hugs all the time. I could go on and on, but I think I'll let the poem do the talking. :-)

With a dolphin puppet, she taught us the love of God
We learned not to swear
We learned to persevere
We learned to see the good in our neighbors
The stories she told,
The songs that we sang
Laid a basis for our lives
And a basis for our faith

She modeled the love of God
She gave selflessly
She threw birthday parties for every student
And she always had a gift

She taught us to repent
She taught us to forgive
Her forgiveness was a model of God’s love

The lessons she taught
The love that she showed
The hugs that she gave
The individual attention that she gave each child
Have stuck with me all these years

Thank you, Miss Morris
For the love of God you showed
Thank you, Miss Morris
For the lessons you taught
Thank you for teaching me
To love the Lord my God
And to share His love
You don’t know how much you’ve impacted my life

I will always remember you
As a model of the faith
As a model of love
As a model of humility
As a model of respect

I know on that day when you stand before the Lord
Your reward will be great
Because you chose to follow Christ
I know that many others will be there
Because you brought them to the Lord
And showed them how to believe,
How to repent, how to forgive, how to love, how to care

May God richly bless you
Beyond your wildest dreams
May you remain a model of the faith
And continue to bring kids to the Lord
May your light keep shining bright
And may you glorify the Lord
Standing strong in the faith
And giving honor to His Name
