We were there
Tending our flocks
Peacefully in the hills
When there shone
A great light
Which gave us
A great fright
Until the man
In the light
Cried, "Gloria!
Today is born
The Savior
Christ the Lord
In a Bethlehem stable!"
The Rabbi is coming!
See his tiny fingers
And his little eyes
Small tufts of hair on his head
A baby's cry
Where the cattle eat their straw!
***
There I was
In the courts
Of the temple
When I saw
A boy and girl
Holding their child
Such a sweet child
And God told me,
"That is the one!"
The Rabbi is coming!
See his tiny fingers
And his little eyes
Small tufts of hair on his head
Now I hold him
O Yahweh, now I can die
For now I hold Your salvation!
***
Am I the Christ?
No, I'm not!
But He's coming soon.
I am not even worthy
To tie His sandals
The Rabbi is coming
He comes even now
See His strong carpenter's fingers
And His loving eyes
O Lord, I am not worth
To baptize my cousin
You should be baptizing me!
And a voice cried out
"This is My Son! Listen to Him!"
And a dove came down
And rested on the Rabbi's shoulders
There I was
In my house
When Andrew ran in
Out of breath
"Hey bro!" he cried
"I have found the Messiah!
The Rabbi is coming
He sees me even now
How's He know my name?
He tells me it is not Simon, but Peter.
Peter - rock - He's gonna build His church on me?
***
My poor child
There she was
Dying of a terrible disease
I must get the Rabbi!
Only He can heal her
I won't be gone long
Master, my daughter's sick
What? She's dead?
You can still help?
Come on, then!
The Rabbi is coming
See His loving hands
And His loving eyes
He says, "She's just asleep!"
My dead daughter
Stood up on her feet
And jumped in the air
And said, "I'm alive!"
***
There lay my only son
Dead on a mat
In his funeral procession
My husband was long gone
Why would God let my only child die too?
Oh look!
The Rabbi is coming!
Is He paying His respects to my son?
What's this?
My son is standing!
He's running to me!
He's alive!
***
The Rabbi is coming!
What is with this crowd?
They tower above me!
They won't let me close enough to see Him
'Cause they hate my guts!
There's a sycamore tree -
I can climb it and see Him
Even though I'm short
Here goes - I'm climbing
There He is!
The Rabbi sees me
Why is He stopping?
How's He know my name?
Why would He associate with a tax collector like me?
Here, I give back the money
To everyone I took it from
Four times over!
***
There He came - Jesus Christ
The voices in me told me that
They used my mouth and asked Him what He was doing here
Calmly, He asked them their name
The many voices cried out, "Legion!
Lord, see those pigs? Send us to them!"
And I watched, in peace at last,
As the pigs ran over the cliff.
O Rabbi, You've come!
I lay at Your feet
I will follow You all my life
I will tell the world
What You have done for me
How You sent those demons running!
***
There I sat at the side of the road
Couldn't see a thing at all
When I heard a crowd coming toward me
And I asked who led the crowd
And they said, "It's Jesus bar-Joseph!"
The Rabbi is coming!
Master, hear my cry!
I can't see Your hands and eyes!
Can't see anything!
A hand covered my eyes
And whe it went away,
I saw a hand
And a face
And a smile
For the first time in my life,
I can see!
***
The waves were getting rough
And things were getting worse
The boat was rocking wildly
And a ghost was coming
A ghost, walking on the water
The ghost knows that we're afraid.
It says, "It is I"
And my bro puts his foot in his mouth
For the zillionth time
And says, "Prove it! Ask me to come to you!"
And the "ghost" says, "Come!"
And Peter eats crow for the zillionth time!
The Rabbi is coming!
Walking on the waves
And Peter walks toward Him
Until he sees the waves
And starts to flounder
Jesus picks him up and says,
"You of little faith, why did you doubt?"
They got in the boat,
And Jesus said, "Peace! Be still!"
And the waves died down.
***
Our brother was dying
He could not last long
We called our friend Jesus
But He waited too long
Our brother's been dead four days
And now I hear that
The Rabbi is coming
Why'd You wait so long?
If You had come a week ago
Our brother'd be alive!
The Rabbi is crying
Lazarus was so nice
We're walking to the tomb
He tells us to roll aside the stone
What? And led out the stink of a dead man?
The stone is rolled away
Where's the smell of death?
The Rabbi shouts, "Lazarus, come forth!"
And the mummy walks out
Alive!
***
The Rabbi is coming
Through the city gates
Seated on a donkey's colt
As we lay down our coats
And wave palm branches in the air
"Hosanna! Hosanna!"
Save us, Holy Messiah!
"Blessed is He who comes in the Name of the Lord!"
We sing Hosanna
To the holy Messiah
To the blessed Rabbi
Who rides in victory
***
The Rabbi is coming
And He is stinkin' mad
The temple courts are filled
With vendors hawkin' wares
"You hypocrites!" He cries
"How dare you turn a house of prayer
Into a den of thieves?"
He's overturning tables
This can't be good for business!
What has gotten into Him?
***
Here in prison I rot
I sit on death row
An angry crowd outside shouts my name
Then they shout, "Crucify him!"
My doom is sealed
My life flashes before my eyes
A Roman guard comes to my cell
He says, "Come out! You're free!"
What? Is this a trick?
I was supposed to be crucified!
The guard says, "No, that was Jesus, a Jewish rabbi."
The Rabbi is coming
Dying in my place
He's about to give His life to save my skin!
***
The Rabbi is coming
Can that be Him?
He looks so weak
Dripping with blood
And carrying a cross
Down the Via Dolorosa
He falls
The soldiers grab me
And make me carry His cross
His blood flows down my back
I bear His heavy cross
Up the Place of the Skull
The Rabbi is hanging
His blood flows from His loving hands and feet
The thorns in His head turn it red
I can't even recognize Him
As they jeer and sneer,
All that He can say is,
"Father, forgive them!
They don't know what they're doing!"
"My God, My God, why have you forsaken Me?"
"Mom, there's your son. John, there's your mom."
"I'll see you in Paradise!"
"I'm thirsty."
"It is finished!"
"Father, into Your hands
I commit my spirit."
The Rabbi is dead.
Oh, what agony!
And I hear a soldier say,
"Surely He was the Son of God."
***
Here I sit, collapsed in tears
My Master is dead
Someone stole His body from the tomb.
This man delivered me from demons
He saved my life.
How could He now be dead?
The gardener comes
He asks why I'm crying
They took my Master away
Did you do it?
"Mary!" he says.
I turn and see Jesus, Rabboni!
The holes in His hands and feet
Show His sacrifice for me
He tells me to tell His disciples that
The Rabbi is coming!
Se His holey hands and feet!
He's coming to see you
He is not dead, but alive!
***
My Lord and my God!
I doubted and was wrong
O Rabbi, You are living
O Rabbi, You have come
You didn't need the door
'Cause you walked right through the wall!
***
There goes the Rabbi
Up into the clouds
To His throne in Heaven
At the right hand
Of God the Father
***
The Rabbi is coming
Today on Pentecost
See Him in the tongues of flame
See Him in the mighty wind
See Him as He speaks through us:
Si Hesucristo ay aking Panginoon.
Jésus-Christ entre dans chaque coeur qui croit.
ˇJesús es el Gran Salvador!
SaHn si Oy!
He's coming into each of our hearts
His Spirit is with us
As we wait for the day
When Jesus is coming back
***
These crazy Christians!
Get rid of them!
Drag them to jail!
Stone them to death!
Why must they insist that that rabbi of theirs
Rose from the dead?
As if Jesus wasn't enough,
Then came Stephen
Preaching the same thing!
When the blasphemer said that he saw Jesus in Heaven
That was the last straw!
Let's throw stones!
What is he saying?
"Father forgive them!"
I've heard these words before
"Into Your hands I commit my spirit!"
I could swear I've heard that before
Oh well
One more Christian down
In Damascus there are more Christians
Let's go get 'em!
A blinding light
"Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?"
Who are you, Lord?
"I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting."
I can't see.
What happened?
That light - it blinded me!
"Brother Paul, receive your sight!"
Who are you?
"I am Ananias. God has sent me to give you back your sight."
Jesus was right!
He wasn't a blasphemer!
He's my Savior!
To think I have become
What I was so viciously persecuting!
The Rabbi has come!
He saved me from the my sin
I'll shout it from the mountaintops
JESUS CHRIST IS LORD!
The Spirit of God is on me
I eagerly await the day
***
When Jesus is coming back
Not as a rabbi
But as the Lamb of God
And the Bridegroom of the Church
He will come to take his own
To their eternal home with Him
And to send the rest away
To their eternal home away from Him
Get ready for that day
When He comes again
Will you be going with Him?
The choice is yours.
